Andreas Günter Weis
Andreas Günter Weis has earned his PhD in 2026 in Medieval and Modern History at the University of Göttingen. His research resides in the field of global history, with a focus on modern Chinese and German history. This includes, for instance, transnational exchanges between China and Germany, global intellectual history, especially of political ideas, and colonial and gender history.
Weis has contributed to a number of edited volumes. Most recently, he has translated Sun Yat-sen’s article “A Summarizing Discussion on the Question of Preserving or Partitioning China” (Zhina Baoquan fenge helun 支那保全分割合論) for the volume Voices of Anticolonialism (Stimmen des Antikolonialismus: Eine globalhistorische Spurensammlung 1615–1915), adding an extensive commentary. The book has now been translated into English and will be published by Camden House. Furthermore, he has published in journals such as Monumenta Serica or Historische Anthropologie. For instance, together with Prof. Dr. Hon Tze-ki, he has written the article “Politics, Leadership, and Wisdom: The Making of the I Ging in 1920s Germany” (2023).
He is currently also a visiting fellow at the Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies (Shandong University) and the first junior fellow of the Conseil International de la Philosophie et des Sciences Humaines (CIPSH).
